San pedro cactus has been used in religious ceremony for well over 3000 years as a medicine and is named after St. Peter.  A very easy to grow cactus and seedlings germinate very very easy in what has been used to date as "take out food" trays or "takeaway tek" ( clear plastic fully enclosed food trays ) to germinate the seeds until they are of a mature age. The Greenhand Nursery personally like to use small condement cups (clear) with lids and sand 60% and perlite 30% and sterile soil 10% with a "not soaking" but very humid grow environment for 2 -4 months before transfering the seedlings to larger humidty domes individually in very sandy loam soils for a year or more. 
 
San Pedro is moderately cold hardy and grows best from zones 8b to zone 10. It does not like freezing temperature or frost and extreme car must be taken to protect the cactus from cold snaps! They can average 3 feet a years growth once established in ground. Potted specimens are somewhat varied with some with fast growth and others not so much but much much faster than other cactus of interest. 
 
Overwatering is  not good ( it is a cactus) . They can be propagated from cuttings very easy after a good amount of growth has shown. They can even be grown if parts break and they fall on their sides very easy.  It  makes a very nice ornamental cactus and beautiful star shapped flowers.  Its known as "huachuma" locally in the Andean culture. 
 
Grow the seeds in a humidity tent or dome or other humidity semi-controlled way for 6 months or longer for best results.  Seeds will germinate in about 2-3 weeks or sooner in a semi-well lit window or well lit lamp light but better results have been seen when close to well lit sunny windows with a few hours (3-4 ) of direct light at least during sprouting, after some light can be reduced only slightly . They like bright light and can handle lots of direct light once established but seem to enjoy a few hours of shade or dappled light during the mid-day.
